Cfit is an accident that occurs when a pilot accidentally flies into a mountain or some other kind of terrain. Apparently the term Cfit was developed in the 70’s. My question is how do you accidentally loose control of an aircraft and crash it? What does this mean exactly I mean the definition itself? Airworthy aircraft under the control of a pilot is inadvertently flown into terrain, water, or an obstacle with inadequate awareness on the part of the pilot of the impending disaster. I don’t know how many cases of CFIT have occurred since the term came about but apparently there are quite a few accidents related to this.

Controlled Flight Into Terrain is not an instance of a pilot losing control of the aircraft. By definition is it *controlled*, meaning the pilot has command of the aircraft controls and the plane is doing what the pilot intends. CFsIT happen when then pilot loses a sense for the plane’s surroundings, generally in poor visibility conditions or when the pilot is not paying attention to the outside world.
