We all want to have a healthy life don’t we ? However, not all of us are lucky to be healthy throughout our life . At one time or another, we do become victim of some diseases. While many unfortunate ones have health problems right from the day they are born, some get diseases in their twenties or thirties and yet some at their old age.
While we cannot absolutely control our destiny, there are certain diseases we can avoid by eating right. Now, eating right has a broader meaning. You are not going and neither it is practically possible to watch and measure the intake of proteins, minerals or other nutrients with each morsel in our mouth.
In this article, I am trying to explain how you should focus in general about what you are eating. Each person is unique, so for exact measurements and intake of vital nutrients for your body please ask advise from your doctor.
There are four basic elements in types of food we eat. They are :Sweet, Sour, Spice and Bitter. Normally all our intake constitutes either of these or combinations of some of these elements.
I may like sweet foods, while you would love to eat more spicy foods. Yet, there are some who are comfortable with sour foods. Of course, given a choice only few of us will go for bitter foods. The key word here is balance. Balance of all these four elements will make sure that the body gets everything in proportion to run its system.
The second golden rule in good eating habits is that if you have choices always go for food, which are natural. By natural, I mean foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains and not those foods, which are processed or refined.
Understand the basic difference between healthy foods and junk foods. The healthy foods are those, which actually supply lot of important vitamins and minerals besides fats and carbohydrates to our body. Junk itself means food having NO nutritional value. We consume junk food only for one purpose and that is to satisfy our taste buds. Once these foods enter our body, it is as good as waste and doing more harm than good.
Total elimination of junk foods is an ideal situation, but most of us like me are normal human mortals and we have natural inclination towards those tasty French fries or burgers. Therefore, along with this ‘good for nothing’ food, if we can manage to eat plenty of healthy and natural foods, we probably have won most of our battle in keeping the diseases at bay.
However, as age advances, we should try to keep in check our desire to eat unhealthy food. Healthy diet makes our immune system strong, which fights disease-causing germs like virus and bacteria round the clock.
Everything we want to achieve in this life starts with healthy body. We need lot of energy and stamina to make our dreams come true. So make sure that you do not abuse yourself and then blame everything to your fate. God Bless !
