
The word meditation itself brings peace. Meditation itself means to bring your mind and breath under control resulting in happiness and peace.
It is not difficult for a common man to spend few minutes daily in meditation. This investment of few minutes will reap rich benefits more than one can think of. Time and again, it has been proved the secret of over all well being of an individual depends upon the mental and physical health of that person.
Not only it is important to establish daily practice but also equally important is do it consistently and regularly. In today’s world, there is a mad rush to achieve everything at the speed of thought. Nothing wrong with that, but I strongly advise to give yourself 10-20 minutes daily for exercises and meditation. And please ! do not expect instant results and do not overdo it to achieve the results quickly. This will only lead to frustration and you will leave mid-way with disappointment.
Prefer early mornings if it is within your reach. Mornings are generally quiet in the outside world and you will be able to concentrate more. Always start meditation after attending nature’s calls and bath. It is of no use going to bed too late, waking up tired in the morning and then start meditating. You need to feel fresh and comfortable. Wear loose clothes with no accessories in your body like watch, rings, and bracelets. The idea behind this to make sure you do not get distracted easily. You can light up a candle, incense stick if you wish. You can also keep a music player and play soft music suitable for meditation.
Now you need to set aside a specific corner in one of your rooms and try to meditate at the same corner each day. Make sure you sit on a mat or cloth as meditation is not recommended on naked floor.
Sit in any comfortable position or you can also sit on a chair if you have some back problem. Close your eyes and follow your breath. Let your mind wander wherever it wishes to, as suppression is not the key for successful meditation. After few days, you will find the mind being diverted inward and making full body awareness.
As each day progresses and you continue meditation regularly, you will find that there is constant pleasant change in you. Do not expect anything, let nature play its role on its own. Expectations lead to unwanted pressure, which is completely contrary to the practice of meditation.
There are many kinds of advance meditation for different kinds of experiences. Here, I am only advising the basics for common person. By meditation, one can gain both outer as well as inner benefits. Outer benefits include glowing skin, youthful look, and elimination of several both known and unknown diseases in you. Apart from this, you will gain in controlling of negative emotions like anger, sadness, grief, hate etc . In fact, the benefits are innumerable which I cannot list in this small article. One of the prominent gains will be steadiness of mind and overall improvement of mental health.
When you continue to practice meditation on regular basis just like daily brushing of your teeth , the blissful experience you get is something I cannot describe in words here. So what are you thinking of ? Get started right away and live a healthy life !
